HUB Foods - Pantry Volunteer

Guided by the principles of Catholic social teaching, Catholic Urban Programs advance the dignity of the human person, remediate the effects of poverty, and empower people to become self-sufficient through crisis intervention, housing security, and out-of-school-time programs. CUP operates its programs at eight locations in East St. Louis. 

Volunteers are essential to the daily work of the Catholic Urban Programs HUB location. Always bustling with phone calls and visitors, volunteers play a significant role in welcoming guests, connecting those in need with the appropriate staff person, and sharing referrals to other community resources. Volunteers work closely with our caseworkers and program managers in serving HUB guests.  

Looking for pantry volunteers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Duties

• Greet clients and visitors

• Assist pantry members with their shopping experience

• Bag pantry members' food after shopping

• Escort pantry members' from pantry and take food out to their vehicles

• Answer questions and provide basic information about CUP services.

• Maintain log of pantry member visits

• Must be able to work independently and with staff

• Communicate in a positive, polite, and respectful manner

• Initiative to perform duties under minimal supervision

• Capable of multi-tasking

• Even-tempered, able to effectively serve people experiencing crises

• Initiative to learn the programs and services of CUP

• Flexible thinking/understanding that each day/week can be different than the one prior

Training:

• Must complete volunteer orientation

• Must complete Diocese of Belleville Child Protection Training and background screening

• Complete three hours of the food pantry training
