Riverfront Clean-Up Trash Thrower
Our Opportunity:
Riverfront Trash Thrower volunteers work with partners and staff to clean up the riverfront at Gateway Arch National Park. Volunteers assist with the separation of landfill materials from recyclable materials alongside Republic Services staff. Once the trash and recyclable materials have been sorted, volunteers load and unload golf carts and vehicles and help throw the materials into either trash or recycling dumpster.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
● A desire to rid the Mississippi River of pollution
● Enthusiasm, friendliness, and a positive attitude
● Respect for confidentiality of the Gateway Arch National Park’s volunteers, staff, and partners
● Willingness to take initiative, and voice ideas
Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time

Ability to occasionally lift and move trash bags from one location to the next

Ability to bend, crouch, or sit

Ability to lift 50 pounds

Ability to repeatedly lift and carry

Ability to toss full trash bags from the ground into a dumpster

Ability to climb into a truck bed
Potential Hazards:

Reaction to plants or chemicals

Cuts and scrapes

Pain and muscle strain due to lifting heavy trash bags
Commitment:
The duration of volunteer term is 3 hours on scheduled day of service.
Location:
Gateway Arch National Park Riverfront (50 Leonor K. Sullivan Blvd.). Check-in will be located at the bottom of the grand staircase at the Arch.
Training and Supervision
● Volunteers may attend orientation but are not required to for one-time events.
● Training will be conducted by volunteer supervisors or seasoned volunteers at the beginning of the volunteer shift
